Core Values
Open Community
God expresses community through his triune nature: God the Father, Jesus the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Humans, created in God's relational nature, are also meant to dwell in community. This truth is also reflected throughout the Bible, as individuals from ancient past find their truest identity in God as they participate in his community. Like God, our community is one that cherishes diversity and the other: other ethnicities, cultures, and generations. We also recognize God's attentive heart towards the outsider and therefore seek to embrace those who are not regularly included.
We were created to love neighbors, friends, and those seemingly different with an unconditional love. Unconditional love and hospitality requires we give space to others - to be messy, broken, and honest - and in doing so it breaks down stereotypes of judgment and blame. In this community, we refuse to hide our broken parts so that God can transform us and restore us gently through our brothers and sisters. We recognize the value of our identity as an ancient faith, existing as part of a historical community. We acknowledge our roots, knowing we too are grafted into a community that extends through time.
Worship and Beauty
God is creative and expresses himself through creation. To worship Him is to acknowledge Him as Creator, Savior, and King. We declare He is great for who He is and what He has done. We glorify God when we acknowledge the masterpiece of his creation, seeing His fingerprints in all that is beautiful. As individuals made in Gods image, we too have the capacity to create, reflect and honor his beauty through worship, and in doing so find an integral connection to His heart through the arts. Worship then becomes the medium through which we communicate our love and loyalty to Him, as well as the truth of his Kingdom. Music , painting, sculpting, poetry, etc. are some of the ways we reveal the beauty and majesty of God. Beauty a rather abstract concept offers a means to better know and experience who God is and what He has done; we seek to hunt for beauty in ever-changing and new ways.
Truth
God has spoken to us and his words are Truth. God also perfectly revealed his truth through the Person of Jesus Christ. This eternal truth of God's words and the life of Jesus Christ are recorded in Bible. Through our faith in the spoken word of God the truth of His existence and the reality of His love enters our lives and there changes us. Truth, therefore, is also found through encounters with Christ and relationship with him by the power of the Holy Spirit. We also realize that Truth can be encountered throughout our world. God desires us to be agents of change, and we redeem truth in art, entertainment, and culture. We proclaim, above all, the truth that Jesus is Lord and we desperately need Him as Savior. The importance of developing our spiritual relationship with Christ is central to who we are, as we seek to be transformed into his likeness.
Missional Journey
Jesus Christ was the most authentic individual that ever lived. He called people to follow him. It is on this journey where our story intersects with God's story and our lives take on a different path. The journey is one of authentic struggle and joy, of pain and suffering as well as healing and hope. We are called to be ourselves, in the reality of our frailty and brokenness, yet dwelling in the eternal love of God, thus becoming something altogether new.
Jesus also calls his church to be a compelling force for good in the world. Our church - a group of people and not simply a place - believes that God affects our lives so that we can be His instrument in affecting others. Thus, we go through life with an outward focus; we serve, sacrifice, and love with not only words but with profound action. God calls us, however, to love and serve without an agenda. We look to serve the city of Aurora, the state of Colorado, and the farthest reaches of the world. We are always on a journey following Christ, continually changing and inviting other to join us.
